Mourinho reveals he turned down United contract to end Ferguson era

Jose Mourinho has revealed he signed a contract to take over from Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United before backing out to return to Chelsea. He has opened up on the decision for the first time. Mourinho walked away from the deal that would have seen him succeed Ferguson at Old Trafford, instead heading back to Stamford Bridge. The Portuguese eventually took charge at United later, but his original arrival was meant to come much earlier. The Mirror carried his comments this week.
